Villi Companions are a diverse group of kind-hearted, community-minded people from all walks of life. Some are retirees looking for meaningful ways to stay engaged. Others are caregivers by nature, stepping in to help families with the little things that make daily life easier.
They offer assistance with household chores, gentle reminders, meal prep, household pet care, tech help, errands, transportation, and, most importantly, a friendly face and a warm conversation. You can even sign up for free to view Companions in your area before booking a visit.
The VilliSafe Screening Process
We understand that it can be challenging to invite someone new into your home. That’s why we handle the vetting process for you, so you don’t have to worry about doing interviews or background checks on your own.
Here’s what happens before anyone becomes a Villi Companion:
Step 1: Application Review and Phone Screening
We begin with a thorough review of each applicant’s qualifications, experience, and communication skills. Every potential Companion has a phone screening where we get to know them better and make sure they align with Villi’s values of compassion, kindness, and service.
Step 2: Video Interview
If the phone screening goes well, the next step is a video behavioral-based interview with one of our Advisors. This is where we really look for the qualities that matter most in a Companion, like patience, empathy, and the ability to connect with others.
Step 3: Comprehensive Background Checks
The next step is a detailed background screening that covers:
- County, state, and federal background checks
- National Sex Offender registry check
- OIG and GSA Excluded Individuals/Parties search
- Nationwide Fingerprint background checks, as required by state or local law or contract
- State required exclusions checks & registry checks
- Motor vehicle records check (for Companions who wish to provide transportation)
- Driving history review and insurance verification
- Identity verification
If a Companion doesn’t meet our driving history criteria, they won’t be approved to transport clients, but they can still provide all the other forms of support Villi offers.
Step 4: Ongoing Support and Oversight
Even after the background checks and interviews are complete, we don’t stop there. Our Advisors stay in touch with clients and Companions to make sure every visit goes smoothly. All Villi Companions are W-2 employees of Villi, which means they’re insured, and we remain actively involved in their ongoing training and support.
